How to Prevent Shin Splints

A shin splint, which is medically referred to as tibial stress syndrome, is a painful injury to the shin that commonly affects runners, but also dancers and other athletes. 

Shin pain most often occurs on the medial side of the shin (termed medial tibial stress syndrome, or MTSS) but can also occur on the lateral or anterior side of the lower leg. Shin splint pain develops due to the overexertion of pressure on muscles in the lower legs causing stress on the tissues in that region.

Have you recently suffered from a hamstring injury?

Hamstrings are the group of muscles located in the back of the thigh. Muscle injuries in this region are quite common, especially in active individuals such as athletes.

This type of injury is usually very painful, and if the muscle has a tear, it will leave you with a lot of bruising.

These injuries often heal very well, however, in order to be able to regain full function of the hamstrings and correct any issues with your stride, appropriate rehabilitation is necessary.

Summer has come to an end and we are gearing up for the fall!

We have been busy at ISSA PT in the past month. Tamer and Adam were in Denver for teaching in early August. ISSA PT was at the Parks Half Marathon last weekend helping runners recover. Our 10 year anniversary party was a great time. Thanks to all who attended.

October is National Physical Therapy month! Our newest physical therapist, Erika, will be hosting a talk in October. We will be sponsors at the GB Shades 3rd Annual Charity Golf Tournament on October 12. 100% of the proceeds benefits The Lollipop Kids Foundation. Come join us or check out their website for ways to help this wonderful non-profit organization. Don't forget to submit your picks and vote for us for the 2016 edition of Best of Bethesda!
